Agnes Scorah-Coats, A Twentieth Century Artists, painted through the second half of the Twentieth Century. From the nineteen-fifties through her passing in nineteen ninety-two, Agnes painted over a hundred oil paintings. She did not paint continually over this period thus her painting fall into several distinct periods. Her early paintings are dated. But, most of here later ones are not. There are though, three distinct styles of signature. All her early paintings are signed "Agnes Scorah-Coats" with a date. There is then a group of paintings signed "Agnes Scorah-Coats" without the date. Her last paintings were simply signed "Coats."
Between her periods of painting Agnes worked full time to help her husband, Raymond, support a family of three growing children.
During her early period, Agnes also did some quite intricate leather tooling work. She made purses and wallets as Christmas and Wedding gifts. Some of her paintings were given as gifts as well. During her latter period she also did stained glass work. It is not known if any of her leatherwork has survived. But, most of her oil painting and glass work is still around.
