There was a Time
We walked on a path through a great forest. The trees were tall and held a canopy full of plants and animals in numbers beyond counting. Sun lit the path where we walked. The animals played together, each with all the others..
One animal stood out from all the rest. It walked on feet and used hands for manipulating a wide range of tools.
We watched the animals in a meadow one day. All the other animals showed the One much respect. Yet the One played with all the others as a child would.
We were sitting on a small hill overlooking the meadow. The One was playing tag-your-it with a mountain guerrilla, that was traveling from one side of the mountain to the other, as guerrillas tend to do this time of year.
And then there was a commotion off to the side, a young deer broke into the clearing followed closely by a small lion. In a moment the lion pounced, both animals rolled over each other for several revolutions and were still. They lay next to each other for a moment or two. All in the meadow stopped and turned to see what had happened.
The lion pushed herself up on her front legs and looked at the deer. A moment passed. The lion put her cheek next to the deer's and begin to nuzzle the deer and purr. But under the purr we could hear the deer crying. The One stopped, gave the guerrilla a hug and walked over to the deer and lion.
The lion stepped back, got flat on her belly and looked straight up at the One. As the One knelt, the deer tried to stand. She immediately fell back to the ground. A leg had been sprained in the tussle.
The One stroked the injured leg. As She stroked, the lion lay her head on her paws and purred. The other animals joined the lion in song.
As they sang, the lion and the One began to sparkle. In a moment they become a bright clear light. We looked about the meadow and all the animals were this light.
In a moment, the song faded out and the meadow returned to its very pleasant afternoon mode.
The deer and lion ran back from were they came, bumping into each other as they went. The One and the guerrilla walked off in the direction of the guerrilla's journey.
The other animals wandered off in this direction and that. Soon all was quite. A rain came to wash the meadow. |
