Hoagland's Glass Like Domes and other images with interesting interpretations are found on his web page. According to C. Donald Martin, our resident fantasist, the domes are the remnants of transparent aluminum holding pens used by the Federation to repopulate the ecosystem. After Kirk got the whiles back and the probe left, a plan was made to bring plants and animals from the past and build a new biosphere for the Earth. Several time periods, prior to the industrial second millenium, were picked to provide an interesting blend of animals. On the Moon isolation pens of transparent aluminum were constructed. There was every intent that they would be remove by the time we go to the moon. The most complete biological scans possible were run on each organism to screen out any virulent disease vectors. But, it is all the plant and animals that make an ecosystem. And the balances are very delicate. This balance, now grossly violated, began to collapse. Within decades the biosphere was nothing more that a soup of viruses churning in a sea of DNA fragments. The Creator returned, looked at the Earth, scratched the Cosmic head and said, "Its reset itself. Wonder what it will do this time." Then left for other adventures. |
